BORÍKEN AWARDS

El Desfile Puertorriqueño de Osceola, Inc. is a committee of El Centro Puertorriqueño de la Florida Central a community based organization in Kissimmee. Since its inception, El Centro has been serving the community by referring people to services; teaching our children about their culture and bringing people together for various community events.
The Boríken Awards celebrate the many contributions of youth and adults in the growing Hispanic Community in the Sunshine State, particularly the Central Florida Region. The name of Boríken, meaning Land of the Brave People was chosen for our award because it represents the original name of Puerto Rico and represents the pride we have in the rich culture of our island that we have brought with us to the Main Land.
The purpose of the Boríken Awards is to acknowledge the exemplary work of Hispanic adults and youth in diverse roles within our community.
ABOUT THE BORÍKEN AWARDS
The Boríken Awards will be presented at the Desfile Gala that will be held Friday, July 20, 2012. This Boríken Awards will help raise awareness and recognition of the outstanding Puerto Rican adult and youth who have distinguished themselves in the community. The awardees are bestowed the “Boríken” award that symbolizes not only their achievements but also their selfless, significant and consistent contributions to the community. As an inaugural event we are making history and setting a precedent in honoring the awardees as Parade Marshalls.
An Award Selection Committee composed of a chair and five distinguished professionals of the Central Florida region will choose the finalists from nominations submitted from the general public and various organizations. The committee will evaluate and rate said nominations on the clearly defined scale of aspects of their experience and their involvement in the community.
